FLIGHT TRAINING
PRIVATE PILOTS LICENCE
The Private Pilot Licence (PPL) is the foundation for your modular training. We also have many students who opt to complete their PPL for their own recreational flying.
The course consists of 30 hours of dual training and 10 hours of supervised solo.
We offer the PPL course in 15-hour packages, prices can be found in the table. They include the equipment required for that stage of your training. We also have pay-as-you-go options available; please contact us for more info.
There are nine theoretical knowledge examinations to complete. These are generally self-study. There is one hour of mandatory ground school with an instructor. More is available if required.
The PPL training covers navigation, general aircraft handling, emergency training, circuits, solo flight and preparation for the PPL skill test.
Many of our students complete the PPL as part of our modular flowchart. More information on that can be found here.

frequently asked questions
-
As a modular school, you can commit as much or as little time as you wish towards your training. We have many students who fly up to five or six times per week, and many who fly once or twice per week. The more time you can commit, the quicker you will be able complete your training. Average course durations are listed in each course section. All flight training is subject to weather as well as aircraft maintenance requirements, so course durations are just estimates.
-
We split the PPL payment down into three 15-hour packages. Pricing for these can be found above. These packages total to 45-hours of flight training. They include exams, specific items of equipment and online material for self-study.
The PPL is officially a 40-hour course, so this package route gives you some margin if you don’t complete the course in minimum time. PPL training is very individual, so some students will complete the course quicker than others.
Alternatively, we offer pay-as-you-go rates for all of our fleet if you wish to pay on a flexibile basis.
For detailed pricing, and to find out what each package includes, please contact us.

If you have no prior experience, we suggest you have a trial lesson before starting your training with Blackbushe. This ensures you enjoy flying before starting your PPL.
-
You do not need a medical to begin your training with Blackbushe, however, you will require a minimum of a UK CAA Class 2 Medical before your first solo. We highly encourage you to get your medical as soon as possible, or before you start.
-
For the PPL course, Blackbushe can accept students from 14. However, the minimum age to go solo is 16, and you must be 17 to get your licence issued. As such, if you are training on a full-time basis, we recommend not starting training until you are ~16 years of age.
