FLIGHT TRAINING

night rating

The Night Rating allows VFR flight at night. It is required to obtain a Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL). It is also obtained by many private pilots to ensure they are confident with night flying should they face any delays during their flight.

The course consists of night familiarisation, night navigation, night circuits, night emergencies, and solo circuits. The course can also be completed alongside your Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) as an additional 5 hours of flight training.

The course requires a minimum of 5 hours of flight time at night, including 3 hours of dual instruction, 1 hour of cross-country navigation with at least one dual cross-country flight of at least 50 km (27 NM).

You must also complete 5 solo take-offs and 5 solo full-stop landings.

Blackbushe Airport has recently been fitted with new LED night lighting. This makes it an excellent location for training for the Night Rating.

The course is operated from late October through to early March; the airport is open to 1800, with extensions to 1900+ available.

Many of our students complete the Night Rating as part of our modular flowchart. More information on that can be found here.
